Kutztown Area SD board approves personnel, policies and programs; accepts $5,000 donation

The Kutztown Area School District Board of School Directors approved a slate of routine personnel and policy items at its meeting, including the administration’s recommended personnel appointments (items 1–8), multiple policy actions, summer school programming and a set of field trips.
Chair opened the consent business and called for motions; after roll‑call votes the board approved personnel items pending mandated credentials. “All the motions so far have passed,” the chair said during the consent portion of the meeting.
Among the items approved: policies listed for second reading and adoption (policy numbers presented to the board); the district’s 2026 summer programming package (including extended‑school‑year services for students with identified needs, traditional summer school and a literacy “Pause” camp for up to about 100 students); elementary and middle school acceleration guidelines; BBEC career‑readiness student research projects; and several out‑of‑state field trips, including the FFA National Convention and a high‑school music trip to Orlando. The board also approved a staff conference request of $3,125 for an employee to attend a Safety Care train‑the‑trainer course intended to expand de‑escalation training capacity districtwide.
The board accepted a $5,000 donation from Mary Anne Lieberman to the Kutztown all‑schools musical activity account and thanked the donor for supporting the district’s music programs. The board also authorized the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) mandated services budget for 2026–27 at a district cost of $29,228.51, which the administration said reflects a roughly 3 percent increase over the prior year.
Several routine personnel items were noted as approved pending final receipt of required credentials; retirements of long‑time staff were recognized during the meeting, and administration committed to follow up on any personnel documentation requirements.
The board scheduled next committee and board meetings and adjourned following the consent agenda votes.
