Keystone Oaks board approves policy changes, CARES agreement, personnel appointments and retirement acceptance

The Keystone Oaks School Board approved a package of routine business items at its reorganization meeting, including professional development travel, policy changes, a student services agreement, personnel appointments and the acceptance of a custodial supervisor’s retirement.

The board approved the superintendent’s request that he and Dr. Leonard attend the League of Innovative Schools convening (affiliated with Digital Promise); the league will contribute $600 toward the superintendent’s cost. The superintendent described the district’s nomination and selection process and said the recognition will bring additional opportunities to the district.

Members voted to abolish five district policies that staff said were duplicative or superseded by other policy language. The board also approved a transition services agreement with CARES of Western PA to provide services for one student between graduation and the age of 21; members asked for and were told the district would seek to clarify the exact costs (transportation was identified as likely to carry some district expense) and that some services are reimbursed through the Office of Developmental Services.

On personnel, the board accepted the retirement of John 'Jack' Priore, custodial supervisor, effective March 13, 2026, and approved the appointment of Travis Woodburn as an ESL teacher effective Jan. 20, 2026 in compliance with the KOEA collective bargaining agreement. The board also approved three assistant positions and stipends for the middle school musical and a family medical listing; members discussed timing of approvals and clearance requirements for non-teacher workers.
