Jenkintown SD recognizes first responders; officials say independent soil and air testing will proceed

The Jenkintown School District honored police officers and volunteer and township fire department representatives for their response to a recent community emergency and announced planned environmental testing.
During recognition, the superintendent thanked first responders and said certificates of recognition would be distributed to many named officers and chiefs. "Your service, your dedication, your commitment means more than you know," the superintendent said.
Board members also discussed environmental testing related to the incident. The superintendent said both "SPS" and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will perform independent soil sampling and air monitoring; staff described a protocol of comparative topsoil and deeper samples, swipe testing and an interpretation of results from contracted experts so the district receives both data and recommendations rather than raw data alone. The board reviewed an access agreement that allows experts onto campus to collect samples and noted that teams have been surveying the site.
No remediation decision was announced at the meeting; the testing plans and access agreements were presented as next steps to gather expert analysis and recommendations for the district and community.
