Jenkintown SD schedules Dino Ambrosi presentation as board continues review of personal device policy

The Jenkintown School District board said it will host Dino Ambrosi on April 9 to present to students and run separate sessions for staff and parents as part of ongoing consideration of the district’s personal-device policy.
A parent, Lisonbee Reed (212 Vermeade Ave.), asked during public comment how the district plans to engage parents and publicize dates for follow-up events and committee work after the device policy second reading. "How do you plan on engaging the parents, and having that open community forum?" Reed asked.
Administrators said Ambrosi’s presentation will be geared primarily toward middle- and high-school students, with a parent session at night; staff and elementary-level educators will also have opportunities to meet with the presenter. The administration described Ambrosi’s talk as a combination of his personal story of addiction, classroom context about phone usage and a 30-minute Q&A to inform district decisions.
The board said it plans to send a survey (after spring break) to gather parent input and then decide whether to form one or more committees (elementary vs. middle/high school-focused) to develop policy and implementation steps. The board deferred final action on the electronic-device policy (Policy 237) until after community input and the April presentation.
No policy vote occurred tonight; the item will return in April for further review depending on feedback from the presentation and ensuing surveys.
