The Jenkintown SD board approved a plan to move forward with removing the district’s existing playground structure and to classify that removal as a district capital project. Presenter (Speaker 3) said the district will assume responsibility for demolition and noted that the playground must be removed regardless of how the Legacy Park project proceeds.
Presenter (Speaker 3) said staff solicited three demolition quotes and selected a preferred vendor for removal and site work. The board did not delay the project to vote on additional Legacy Park items that night.
Public commenters pressed the board on Legacy Park fundraising and the project timeline. Brianna Gardner (Speaker 7) said the fundraising campaign’s target is $1.5 million and that the campaign currently stands at about $1.13 million, leaving roughly $400,000 to raise if the district is to go to bid on April 7. Gardner told the board: "If we don't have all of our money in, two important parts that we designed will not be able to be moved forward. That is when we need all of our money in so that we can go out for bid."
Speaker 5 (HSA representative) reported active fundraising and community events and said the group is coordinating with insurers and volunteers to support a community build. Presenter (Speaker 3) confirmed a community build planning window and urged volunteers and tradespeople to assist; the presenter gave a build window from July 27 to August 2.
The board approved the demolition item and acknowledged the fundraising deadline; public speakers urged residents to contribute before the April 7 target so the full design can proceed to bid.
