District staff said on Feb. 23 that Jenkintown School District will apply for a school facilities grant with a final project estimate above $1.9 million and a required 25% local match.
A staff member told the board the requested grant funds would be used for replacement of a boiler, five elementary-classroom windows, three elementary HVAC systems and replacement of the sprinkler main/dry system. The staff estimate for the project exceeded $1,900,000 and the board was told the district is requesting only what can be afforded based on transfers to the capital-project fund.
The board was reminded that the grant requires a 25% local match, which the district said would amount to a little under $500,000 based on the estimate. Staff said the application deadline is March 13, 2026; the timeline for awarding the grant was not known and staff said they would ask the grantor for that information.
Board members asked when the district would know whether it received funds; staff said they would follow up with the awarding agency and report back. The board gave approval to proceed with the grant application as part of its consent approvals for financial items.
The board did not take any other action at the Feb. 23 meeting related to capital-project budgeting beyond authorizing submission of the grant application and confirming there were sufficient planned capital transfers to support the local match.
