Board hears concerns about girls soccer divisional realignment, travel and safety

A board member said the change will pair Fairfield's small roster (about 14 players) with much larger schools and warned of longer travel times and greater injury risk. "These poor girls so we're gonna be going against these teams that... we're putting our kids out there for danger," the board member said, noting schools with substantially larger participation figures.
Other board members and administrators said the alignment process considers records and enrollment and that multiple districts or athletic directors participate in the realignment vote. Superintendent (Speaker 3) said he could get answers about the process and whether the league's voting or population metrics caused Fairfield's reclassification. "I can get the answers to those questions," he told the board.
Board members pressed for clearer information about roster-size thresholds, travel implications and whether the district has appeal or scheduling options. Administration agreed to return with details on the alignment process and any scheduling or safety mitigations the district might pursue.
