Superintendent reports retreats, staffing and new stadium lights for East Allegheny

Superintendent Joseph Savinda updated the East Allegheny School District board on administrative work ahead of the school year, including a recent three-day administrative retreat, new staffing assignments and facility upgrades.
"We were at Carnegie Library of Homestead, Craddock's Battlefield History Center, and Mill 19 in Hazelwood Green," Savinda said, summarizing regional site visits used to inform curriculum and community connections.
Savinda welcomed new administrators and staff into their roles, specifically naming Doctor Mike Toole, Devin Milburn and Jen Costello, who will serve as director of student services. He also thanked the administrative team and AIU communications specialist Marie Mobley for work on the district website rebrand and outreach.
On facilities, Savinda announced the district had completed phase 1 of a Churchman Stadium lighting project and expected the new lights to be visible after the meeting. He credited the utility partner Duquesne Light for work on the installation and described a community event, "Thursday night lights," tied to the update.
Savinda also noted continuing community programming, such as the Bella Terra Thrive partnership with a local equestrian facility, and recognized staff members who serve in the military (noting staff member Sean Bogushevsky) and a decade of service by board member John Cividas, who received a flag and recognition.
The board approved routine minutes and moved the agenda forward; Savinda said no questions were raised about the administrative reports and that staff will continue implementing plans through the start of the school year.
