Board reviews capital priorities, roofing and gym-floor needs; staff to post childcare options and finalize out-of-school agreement

The Conestoga Valley School District board reviewed the district’s capital-priority list and several ancillary administrative items at its Jan. 12 meeting.
Ted Johnson, the district’s director of operations, outlined proposed work on the annex (former district office) including carpeting and integrating the building’s HVAC into the district’s central controls. Johnson said an estimate of $164,500 would allow remote control and monitoring of that facility.
Johnson also described replacement of older chillers and related motors and identified numerous roof areas across the campus whose warranties have expired. He recommended restoration in many flat-roof areas using a Tremco AlphaGuard restoration system that can be applied over existing materials and, where feasible, provide a 20-year warranty after restoration. The director noted the district performs core sampling and structural checks before choosing restoration versus full replacement.
On the gym-floor project, Johnson said vendors will not warrant new wood-floor installations unless the space has humidity control; the district installed air conditioning in the relevant gym last summer to meet that requirement.
Separately, staff reviewed the Lancaster County Career & Technology Center budget; Superintendent Dr. Hartman said the countywide CTC budget totals about $17.5 million and that Conestoga Valley’s contribution would be roughly $1 million (about $9,000 more than last year). The CTC budget will be on next week’s consent agenda for formal approval.
Staff also presented a revised, year-to-year Steps to Success before/after-school agreement that staff said is effective retroactively to August 2025 after attorney review. Board members noted a formatting/typo issue in the agreement and asked staff to provide the fee schedule discussed earlier by a parent and to post alternative local childcare and before/after-school options on the district website; staff agreed to follow up with the requested details.
No action on the capital items was requested at the meeting; directors received the materials for future consideration and asked staff to return with corrected contract language and the requested fee information.
