Blackhawk board approves routine motions, adds items to Sept. 19 voting agenda and requests brief executive session on personnel

The Blackhawk School Board voted on several routine items and made multiple agenda additions during its Sept. 12 work session. The board elected PSBA officers (candidates were unopposed), approved the Aug. 15 meeting minutes and approved the human-resources report for Sept. 12 to allow time-sensitive hires to proceed. The chair called voice votes and the motions carried.
Finance committee chair Mr. Cho told the board items 8.1 and 8.2 concern electricity and natural-gas contract extensions and noted the district participates in a Western Pennsylvania natural-gas consortium. The board moved to add finance items (8.2–8.4) to the upcoming voting meeting backup. Other committee additions approved for the voting agenda included McCarter’s updated driver list (to be added to zoning business) and education committee items (field-trip request, an internship affiliation with Westminster College and 2024–25 outreach contracts).
Several of the motions passed by voice vote with no roll-call tallies recorded on the transcript; the chair noted seven of nine board members were present at roll call. For procedural matters, the board corrected a numbering typo on buildings-and-grounds items and approved adding those items to the next meeting’s agenda.
During additional business a resident asked about microburst damage, and a board member recognized teachers for 9/11 remembrance activities. A board member requested a brief executive session immediately following the meeting to consult the solicitor and superintendent on a personnel question. Separately, Superintendent Dr. Benatta warned the public of regional social-media spoofing and said a student in a nearby Allegheny County district was apprehended for a Snapchat threat; he said local police are investigating social-media incidents that may affect the district and that he would be issuing communications.
The board adjourned and reminded attendees that the next voting meeting is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.
