The Blackhawk School Board approved several agenda items including a pending Head Start lease agreement and the acceptance of a donated playground to serve the returning Head Start classroom. Administrators said Head Start is run by the Private Industry Council, is income-restricted (typical family-of-four eligibility cited around $30,000), and will give priority to Blackhawk students; transportation and final eligibility decisions are made by the Head Start agency.
The board also approved personnel and service items on the consent agenda: finance consent items 8.2–8.7 (as listed on the board packet), item 11.1 (Key Solution contract for an ASL teacher), and item 11.2 (Bradley Center educational services agreement). All motions were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote at the meeting.
On the playground donation, administrators said the gift is a smaller, classroom-scale play set plus outdoor classroom tables to be installed over the summer at the Head Start site; the board discussed reporting and audit requirements for accepted donations and voted to accept the gift.
What this means: Head Start’s return adds a pre-K option in district facilities but does not change Head Start’s income-based admission rules. Service contracts for specialized instruction and emergency response were approved as consent items per the agenda packet.
