Superintendent highlights donations, AI partnerships and renovation timeline at Carlynton SD meeting

The superintendent thanked donors including Subaru of South Hills, which committed $7,500 in teacher-level grants for Carnegie Elementary; a Masonic Lodge gave $1,500 to support indoor-recess activities and PBIS; and Bridge City Barber Shop donated back-to-school supplies for the district. "Their contributions highlight a strong commitment to the district," the superintendent said.
The superintendent also summarized takeaways from an AI Horizons conference, noting announcements such as Google's planned Pennsylvania AI Accelerator to offer free AI training for businesses and references to large private investments in the state that are expected to create jobs. The superintendent framed AI as both a technical and workforce issue and said the district is adapting courses and staffing to prepare students for emerging opportunities.
On capital work, the superintendent outlined the Carnation renovation schedule: documents were uploaded for bid, a pre-bid meeting is scheduled, bids are due Oct. 14 after a four-week bid period, bids will be reviewed for a Nov. 11 work session and the board could issue a notice to proceed after the Nov. 18 meeting. Construction is tentatively slated to begin in May 2026 with completion targeted for July 30, 2027; the administration warned that delays could push a start date to after Labor Day 2027.
The superintendent also introduced student board representatives returning and new to the table: Rose Hetko (student representative) and Jackson Keeney (junior representative), and encouraged their future reports on student life.
