Educational foundation reports scholarships and grants; coach and union make public comments

Brian Wright, speaking for the Blackhawk School District Educational Foundation, said the foundation focuses on three areas: scholarships, teacher grants and emergency student assistance. Wright said nearly 60 students completed scholarship applications this year, the foundation ran two rounds of teacher-grant funding, and it maintains an emergency fund to assist students with needs like clothing and heating oil.
During public comment, Eric Fedde, the district track coach, recapped a strong season for athletes: he said the girls’ team went 6–0 and were back-to-back section champions, noted multiple county champions and cited a long-jump mark of 22 feet 4 inches. Fedde also outlined plans for a "cougar prowl" 24-hour relay fundraiser at the high school with food trucks, music and awards and encouraged board participation in a relay team.
Another public commenter, identifying themself as the union president, congratulated Francesca Dering on being hired after filling in during the year.
The board closed the meeting by announcing its next voting session on June 12, 2025.
