Board approves resolution acknowledging BVIU borrowing for New Verizon project; representation on authority to follow

During the Jan. 15 meeting the Blackhawk School District board discussed and approved a consent agenda that included a resolution acknowledging that the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit (BVIU) will borrow funds for the New Verizon project.
Board counsel/staff (speaker 1) explained the measure "authorizes or acknowledges that the BVIU is going to be borrowing money for the new Verizon project" but that the resolution "does not obligate the district to be borrowing." He said the resolution includes language that any grants, gifts or donations received for the project will be deducted from the amount each district would otherwise contribute.
Board members asked how Blackhawk will participate in monitoring and decision-making for the project. Staff said a separate resolution coming in February will seek to revive the legal authority that owns the New Verizon School and to update the lease with BVIU so that each district, including Blackhawk, has representation on that authority.
Following discussion the chair called the vote on the full consent agenda. Members responded "Aye," and the motion carried; an earlier roll call had established nine members present.
The administration asked board members to consider who from Blackhawk would serve on the revived authority and said further materials and a February resolution will be presented for the board’s consideration.
