Bermudian Springs board appoints Julie Marshall to fill Region 2 vacancy

The Bermudian Springs School Board on Monday voted to fill a Region 2 vacancy, appointing Julie Marshall after interviews with two candidates.

Superintendent Dr. Brad Sterner introduced both applicants and oversaw a structured interview process. Marshall, who said she has lived in the district for 40 years and has 23 years of banking experience, told the board she wanted “to contribute back to the school district that my kids grew up in.” A second candidate, identified in the meeting as Mr. Pittman, described a background that included managing a federal Medicaid budget and said he was ‘‘vested in the school’’ because a child currently attends the district.

Board members praised both applicants for being ‘‘open to seeing both sides’’ and for bringing different professional perspectives. One board member said, ‘‘You each bring a unique set of skills that would be valuable to the board,’’ and another highlighted both candidates’ communication skills and community roots as positive attributes.

Following a short deliberation and a role-call vote, the chair announced the result: seven votes for Marshall and one for Pittman. The chair declared Julie Marshall the new Region 2 board member and welcomed her to remain for the rest of the meeting and to connect with staff after the session.

The appointment fills the board’s remaining vacancy. There was no public comment during the meeting on the appointment. The board’s process consisted of standard interview questions, public observation of the candidates’ answers, a brief public-comment opportunity (none offered), and a roll-call selection. Next steps for the new member will include completing any required onboarding and filing forms as directed by district administration.
