Board adopts state-approved science and health instructional materials for elementary and high school

Instructional lead (voice S20) described the state's adoption cycle and local pilot process, saying schools piloted several science programs and that the recommended health materials already in use at elementary grades met current ODE requirements. "All the science materials are geared towards a phenomenon-based instructional model," the lead said, noting pilots across grade levels and teacher feedback.
Board members discussed opportunities for parents to review materials and how community engagement was handled at conferences and through QR-coded feedback forms. Staff acknowledged they received little direct family feedback at spring conferences but said materials and comment forms were made available and that staff could provide private viewing sessions for stakeholders who requested them.
A motion to adopt the science and health materials was made and seconded; the board recorded a 5-0 vote to adopt the recommended materials. Staff will work with publishers on implementation plans and schedule professional development for teachers over the spring and next school year.
