District reports mixed enrollment shifts, posts first-grade opening and highlights 'grow your own' teacher pipeline

District staff told the board that early-year enrollment data show mixed shifts and that the district is taking steps on staffing and retention.

Adam summarized start-of-year activities and the district's PowerSchool rollout, noting training during in-service week and follow-up support for teachers entering grades and gradebook use. He said the district is midway through its third week of school and working through system rollovers.

On enrollment, Dory reported that the 10-day mark snapshots showed K–5 increases, middle school rising from about 156 to 173 students, and continued decline at the high-school level that mirrors recent years. Overall the district expects a net gain of roughly 33 students; the superintendent said a full enrollment report and class-size breakdown will be provided in October.

Board members raised concerns about a particularly large first-grade class and asked whether the district would post an additional teacher. Adam said the district has posted a first-grade position and is actively searching. Trustees also discussed recognizing staff who complete licensure programs through the district 'grow your own' efforts; Adam noted several classified staff advancing toward teaching credentials and said Nicole Mirabito has been moved into a certified middle-school science role.

The board asked staff to provide classroom-size and student–teacher-ratio data by grade for board review and suggested public-facing information showing what a teacher's Friday workday entails so the community better understands non-classroom teacher duties.
