The Sheridan SD 48J board agreed to use its October work session to advance a long-range facility plan and begin preparations for a potential May 2025 bond.
Superintendent-level staff told trustees the long-range facility plan had been tiered by safety and security, improved learning environments, infrastructure and maintenance, and community priorities; the plan will be presented for board review in early October so trustees can discuss bond strategy and a campaign timeline. "That's the direction we need," a district leader said while urging the board to map out next steps and research consultant/marketing costs and possible WESD support.
Dory said the district will submit the facility plan to the state once the board approves it, which will qualify the district for state grant funding tied to facility improvements. Separately, staff reported they are preparing an "early work" agreement to open the Barbara Roberts site to bids; permitting is in progress and an early-November start is possible depending on permit timelines.
Board members and staff emphasized that the October work session would split time between the MOU review and bond planning; Dory said she will bring cost estimates for outreach and discuss who might assist with voter engagement. Trustees also discussed the OSBA fall conference and agreed to coordinate attendance before the registration deadline.
No formal decision to place a bond on the ballot was recorded at the meeting; the board asked staff to return with additional detail at the October session so trustees can decide whether to proceed toward a May 2025 bond proposal.
