The Jackson County Anti Crime Committee voted to recommend adoption of Ordinance 6035, a measure to appropriate funds from the county's anti-crime sales tax fund and accept a 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant to support the multi-jurisdictional drug task force. Chair Donna Peyton opened the meeting at 12:06 p.m. and announced the ordinance.
Dan Cummings of the drug task force told the committee the grant covers the period 07/01/2025 through 06/30/2026 and that the task force will receive $320,483.78 for that period. "These funds will be used to partially fund five detectives assigned to the drug task force," Cummings said, and he added the task force has received the Edward Byrne JAG award for about 28 years.
Peyton read the ordinance summary on the record, stating an appropriation of $320,484 from the undesignated fund balance of the 2025 anti-crime sales tax grant fund and acceptance of the 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant awarded to the multi-jurisdictional drug task force. (The chair's rounded figure on the record was $320,484; the presenter provided a more precise figure of $320,483.78.)
After brief presentation, the chair asked for questions, then entertained a motion to adopt. Cummings moved the ordinance; the record shows a second was made but the seconder's name was not stated. The committee voted by voice; the chair announced two "Aye" responses and stated the committee will recommend adoption of Ordinance 6035.
The meeting concluded at 12:08 p.m. with no further business. The committee's recommendation on Ordinance 6035 was recorded on the minutes; no additional actions, amendments, or named dissenting votes were entered into the record at this meeting.
