Superintendent Dory told the Sheridan School District 48J board that the district's CARE team has been reorganized into a student-family focus that meets weekly to coordinate school and community supports for families.
Dory said the team includes community partners (Churches United for the West Valley, the YCCO and the food bank) and that the Good Food Bag program delivers produce, canned goods and recipes to families every Thursday. "There are currently, I believe, 29 families being served households," she said, and she provided December figures: 108 food boxes serving 27 families, totaling 514 people. Volunteers conduct deliveries; Dory noted the program needs a second vehicle because the current van is overfilled for routes.
Board members praised the program and the district's volunteer base; one board member noted it went "above and beyond" the original request to replace meals lost by a shortened school week. Dory also flagged other community services coordinated through the CARE team, including visits by the mobile dental clinic (the "tooth taxi") and efforts to secure vision services for students in Sheridan.
The board did not take formal action on these items but asked the superintendent to continue identifying volunteer and vehicle resources to support deliveries.
