The agenda also included approval of the 2026–27 student calendar (first day Aug. 31, before Labor Day), despite one member expressing concern about heat and start dates.
On capital projects, the board approved a fiscal resolution to allow a design‑build procurement method for Renew America Schools grant work at Illinois Valley, Evergreen and Fort Benoit. Superintendent (Speaker 4) said the design‑build approach is recommended for energy‑savings projects where engineering and construction must adapt to older buildings; he noted the grant provides the funding, and the contract will be a not‑to‑exceed amount tied to the grant.
The board also authorized district staff to complete negotiations for the Fort Benoit seismic contract (a previously awarded CMGC arrangement). The motion passed, with one director (Speaker 9) formally abstaining because of a potential conflict: their spouse has performed subcontract work for the awarded contractor.
