The Port Orford-Langlois School District board proclaimed January as School Board Recognition Month and thanked volunteer board members for their work at a regular meeting. A board representative read a proclamation noting the board’s role in setting standards and aligning district resources, and presented honorees with cards and a gift packet prepared by students.
Students from the district’s dance class provided the education spotlight, performing square-dance and cha-cha routines for the board and visitors. A student who introduced the performance said the class has about 24 enrolled students and explained some were absent for illness and sports; roughly half took part in the demonstration. The board applauded the students’ effort and the presentation was described by a board member as “awesome.”
The meeting opened with routine business: the chair called for approval of the consent agenda, which was moved, seconded and approved unanimously. The chair later proposed moving the Local Service Plan presentation earlier in the agenda to accommodate visiting presenters; that motion also carried.
The board said it would keep the proclamation and student recognitions on record and invited the community to join in honoring board service. The meeting proceeded to a public-comment presentation by a visiting agency representative and to the Local Service Plan presentation by South Coast ESD staff.
