Sheridan superintendent outlines tribal MOA and four-day-week survey showing broad support

Superintendent Cori told the Sheridan School Board that the district has a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with a local tribe to formalize curriculum partnerships, phased implementation across grade levels and shared professional learning for staff.
"Part of the language was there were, I believe, three grades to start this year, add another three grades next year," Cori said, describing a staged rollout of tribal-history lessons and culturally relevant units. She said the MOA includes coordination on student supports and that participation in tribal professional development has been well received.
Cori also presented survey results about the district calendar and a four-day schedule pilot. She said 115 parents responded to the calendar survey with 89.6% favoring a four-day week. Among licensed staff, 40 of roughly 55 participated and about 90% indicated support; 20% of classified staff responded and 95% of those respondents supported the model. Cori said childcare concerns remain the top obstacle cited by families.
Board members discussed how the Friday schedule is structured (student help sessions in the morning and teacher collaboration at midday) and emphasized that the board committed to a multi-year pilot with annual surveys to assess effects on attendance, academic outcomes and family needs.
The board did not adopt new instructional policy at the meeting; the superintendent asked for continued feedback from families and staff as the district prepares next year’s calendar.
