Board adopts new K–8 health, sixth-grade science supplements and expands high-school business offerings

The Port Orford-Langlois SD 2CJ board voted to adopt a set of curricular materials for the coming year, including supplemental sixth-grade science content, a comprehensive K–8 health curriculum, and high-school business courses intended to grow into a CTE pathway.
Superintendent Tara explained that the sixth-grade science materials are supplemental resources to bolster existing instruction, that the K–8 health curriculum is comprehensive and will require teacher professional development, and that the district plans to add high-school business classes incrementally until a CTE program is established. "You get a new curriculum, and there will be training," she said, noting much of the training will be online or by Zoom and that staff will schedule PD with teachers.
Board members asked whether parents had opportunities to preview the curriculum; Tara said she did not recall a formal preview being provided and committed to ensuring parents could review the health curriculum and that the district would incorporate preview opportunities into future adoption processes. The board moved to adopt the curricula as presented and the motion carried.
