PORT ORFORD, Ore. — The Port Orford‑Langlois School Board approved routine business items including an out‑of‑state travel request for the Pacific High varsity volleyball team and staffing recommendations for the coming year.
Travel approval: Coach Ashley Moore (self‑identified) described a Labor Day weekend trip to a tournament in Oahu, Hawaii, for the varsity team that includes cultural and historical activities and will not require students to miss school or request district funds. After brief questions about deposits and insurance, the board moved, seconded and voted to approve the out‑of‑state travel request. “The girls are gonna be working and saving money and working together as a team to make it there,” Moore said, describing the students' fundraising plan. Staffing and administrators: The board accepted the licensed staffing recommendations as presented and approved renewals for the district's administrators. No nonrenewals of licensed staff were included on the list; the superintendent noted one resignation separately. Motions to approve both the licensed staffing list and the administrative renewals carried unanimously.
Other business: The board received routine updates on technology programs including a 'Connected Seniors' initiative, the student newspaper's awards, and the district's preliminary budget outlook. The meeting concluded after board comments and a vote to adjourn.
Outcome: Motions to approve travel, staffing recommendations and administrator renewals were approved without objection.
