Superintendent highlights holiday programs, Food for All and student FFA successes at Perrydale SD 21

At the start of the report Speaker 3 described the district’s holiday traditions — a holiday feast, Christmas performances and a turkey trot — and invited board members and community to participate. On the Food for All program, Speaker 3 said it is the district’s largest volunteer program and gave an annual collection estimate: “it’s over 300,000 pounds every year, some years up to close to 450,000,” the superintendent said, while also using other numeric phrasing in the report. The superintendent said the district is working with community partners and COG to expand the program next year.
Special education and staffing updates were also given: Speaker 1 reported that the district is serving “about 37 students on IUPs,” and that ongoing speech evaluations will likely continue through conferences; the district also noted a new behavior support person provided through WESD will visit to support behavior services.
Speaker 5 introduced new hire Elizabeth Martin, who joined from EduStaff and is currently splitting time between fourth and fifth grade. "She's been with us for about a week and a half now and spends a lot of her time, mixed between fourth and fifth grade, and she's doing really well," Speaker 5 said.
Speakers also highlighted FFA and student recognition: Speaker 3 summarized recent ag-sales and food-science competition placings, and noted that student Connor Fast was selected for the Blue Jacket program, a state-level mentorship opportunity supported by Farm Credit; the superintendent described it as a selective nomination process with roughly a dozen statewide recipients.
What’s next: the district will continue Food for All planning with community partners, hold the elementary Christmas program on Dec. 19, run a student leadership–organized blood drive on Dec. 12, and convene its next board meeting on Dec. 16. Several date items were corrected during discussion and some event scheduling remains subject to final confirmation.
