Superintendent Dan Fish presented the district's five target areas from the state's integrated guidance plan and asked the board for feedback on the measures and timeline.
Fish described regular attenders as students who attend more than 90% of their enrolled days and set a year-end target he characterized as ambitious: "my goal by the end of the year is to get us to 80%," he said. He outlined district tactics already in use — "nudge letters" to families, phone outreach for students under 80% attendance and attendance-team meetings at schools — and said principals will bring school-level theories of action to the Nov. 18 meeting.
On academic measures, Fish said third-grade reading rates and eighth-grade math proficiency remain areas with considerable ground to cover; he signaled the district will ask school teams to present explicit actions aligned to those goals. Staff noted that official state report-card metrics will lag and that the district will supplement with midyear predictive indicators to track progress.
A staff member explained that the district is looking for predictive assessments (for example, interim measures for ELPA and other exams) so the board can see midyear estimates of expected outcomes rather than waiting for next year's official report card.
What's next: Dan Fish will meet with board members ahead of Nov. 18 for individual follow-ups and the board will expect school-level presentations on the theories of action and midyear data that can predict year-end performance.
