North Marion lays out integrated plan progress and health curriculum review; budget limits purchases

Staff explained the integrated plan's key themes—well-rounded education, equity, community engagement and system strengthening—and said the state's report-card data remain embargoed, so more detailed metrics will be shared at the next meeting. The district highlighted local measures used in the plan including third-grade reading, eighth-grade math, ninth-grade on-track and attendance metrics.
On health curriculum, administrators said ODE has a short list of approved materials for this cycle, with few options for K-5 and middle school; the only k-5 approved title named on the ODE list is The Great Body Shop (which the district currently uses). The district will recommend materials to parents for review, pilot middle-school materials, gather parent feedback via surveys and meetings, and—if funds become available—bring purchase recommendations to the board.
Because the budget does not include funds to buy major new resources this year, staff said they will identify preferred materials now so purchases can proceed quickly if additional funding appears.
What happens next: The district will hold parent outreach and pilot reviews in winter and spring, with hope to bring materials back to the board for approval in March if funding permits.
