The Nyssa School District 26 board approved its consent agenda and recorded two formal actions at the Nov. 10 regular meeting: it voted to support Bruce Kavan for the OSBA Legislative Policy Committee representative for Eastern Oregon position 1, and it postponed final action on a group of August 2025 policy updates to allow further review.
Board Chair called for a motion on the consent agenda; a board member moved and another seconded the motion. "It's been moved by Donnie and seconded by Dustin to accept the consent agenda or to approve the consent agenda as presented," the chair said, and the board voted by raised hands. The chair announced "The motion carries."
On new business, Board Chair introduced a recommendation to support Bruce Kavan as the Eastern Oregon representative to the Oregon School Boards Association Legislative Policy Committee. A board member moved to support Bruce Kavan and a second was recorded; the chair again called for a vote and said the motion carried.
The board then discussed August 2025 policy updates (second reading). Several directors said they preferred more time; after discussion the board agreed to hold final votes on certain policies (including the items referenced as BHD/VHD) until December to allow additional review and to accommodate an upcoming packed work session and auditor presentation.
No roll-call tallies with named votes were recorded in the transcript for these items; the chair announced outcomes verbally. The board scheduled a December work session (Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.) for follow-up and asked directors to complete their policy review before that meeting.
Outcome notes: the consent agenda was approved; support for Bruce Kavan was approved; the August 2025 policy updates were postponed for third reading in December.
