The North Santiam SD 29J Board of Directors voted to extend and renew a slate of licensed employment contracts as proposed by the superintendent during its Feb. 27 regular session.
Chair opened the item after a presentation from district staff summarizing the annual list of recommended contract renewals. District staff said the board must take action when employees move into the final year of a multi-year probationary contract; other probationary-year transitions do not require board action. The staff presentation also listed three retirements and three employees on temporary contracts who are eligible to apply for open positions.
Board members asked how resignations and midyear departures are handled. A staff member noted that Oregon licensing rules give districts the ability to impose up to a 60-day release period for licensed employees who transfer to another public district, but that the district generally works cooperatively with employees in cases of protected leave or private employment. "They have 60 days," the staff member said, describing the commonly applied notice practice and the district's process for issuing contract notifications after board approval.
A board member moved to "extend and renew contracts for the individuals and bankers as proposed by the superintendent"; the motion was seconded and, following a voice vote, the chair declared the motion passed.
No individual vote tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript beyond the chair's announcement that the motion carried. The board did not discuss individual personnel files in public and noted that any specific personnel disputes would be handled through the district's administrative processes or in executive session where appropriate.
The meeting then moved on to a work session on the district strategic plan. Public comment was scheduled but no registrants were listed; the board adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
