Board hears plan for gate reader and cameras as staff warn of frequent turf trespassing

"We have the camera 1 camera installed. We're waiting for hardware for the second one," a facilities staff member said. Staff explained the planned reader will be able to lock and unlock the gate on a schedule and assign groups FOB access so teams can use the track without staff unlocking the gate manually.
Board members pressed staff on supervision and enforcement. "If you choose to climb the fence and not get a staff member to watch you," a board member said during public discussion, "the police…you will be arrested for trespassing." Staff described frequent incidents of youths climbing the fence, leaving elementary playground goalposts on the turf and causing minor damage; they said officers recently asked a group to leave campus.
Staff suggested a mix of short‑term and long‑term steps: announce permitted use procedures to schools, deploy signage and community notices, require a staff member or approved volunteer to sign facility requests and carry insurance information when supervising, and remove loose equipment found on the turf. Board members discussed allowing approved volunteers tied to district programs (for example, wrestling) to be issued FOBs if they are formally registered and assigned responsibility.
The board did not take a formal vote on new rules at the meeting; staff said they will return with finished infrastructure and written monitoring procedures. The chair noted the district will coordinate a community notice and school announcements once signage and the reader are in place.
