Board adopts Wayfinder K–12 SEL and counseling materials; staff to implement with counselors and teachers

The board approved adoption of Wayfinder as the district’s K–12 social‑emotional learning (SEL) and counseling curriculum, including the Waypoints assessment component and counseling materials for tiered interventions.

District SEL and counseling teams presented the selection process: staff screened multiple programs, piloted options with teacher and counseling advisory teams, reviewed family and staff feedback, and prioritized a program that supports tier 1–3 instruction, offers Spanish translations, and integrates future‑readiness and SB3 financial literacy components. The board moved and approved the recommendation by voice vote.

Teachers and counselors who piloted Wayfinder highlighted practical benefits: searchable lessons, built‑in family‑engagement resources, a Waypoints assessment that tracks student SEL strengths and areas for growth over time, and counselor lessons for small‑group and individual interventions. Staff presented a multi‑year cost estimate and implementation plan.
