Milton-Freewater vice principal highlights sports wins, talent-show auditions and attendance challenge

Travis Phelps, vice principal at Central Middle School in Milton-Freewater, told parents and attendees that the school’s athletes have been posting recent successes and that several upcoming events are planned.

"We do have some exciting news to share with you," Phelps said as he opened his announcements. He reported that "the girls basketball team won both of their games," and added, "we are very, very proud of them doing that." Phelps also said that "yesterday, our wrestling team had a duel and they won," and that many wrestlers have been placing in recent tournaments.

Phelps encouraged families to watch for the start of track season, saying sports are "winding down and track will be on the horizon pretty soon." He also announced that auditions are open for the school’s talent show and urged students with "any special talents" to try out.

On attendance, Phelps described an ongoing grade-level attendance challenge. He said the most recent challenge pitted boys against girls and that "the boys won that," but he did not provide target thresholds or exact attendance figures.

Phelps closed by noting the district is well into the second semester and that parent-teacher conferences are coming up soon. "We are underway, well underway in our second semester, and we are off to a very good start," he said, and thanked listeners for their support.
