North Santiam SD 29J board adopts McGraw Hill Reveal for 6'8 and 9'12 math

Board member (speaker 10) moved that the board accept the curriculum committee's recommendation and adopt the new Reveal materials as presented for implementation in the 2024'25 school year; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Why it matters: staff told the board the adoption was driven by a yearlong committee process that paired selection of materials with professional learning so teachers would learn both the strategies and how to use the materials. Presenters said Reveal offered features the committee prioritized: structured teacher supports, accessible videos for students and families, differentiation for English learners and substantial practice and assessment tools.
"We looked at what was underneath the surface ' what will differentiate for our students," a committee presenter said, summarizing the team's priorities. The committee highlighted Reveal's inquiry-based tasks, built-in opportunities for student discourse, and a mix of print and online resources so students without reliable home internet still have access to materials.
Board members asked how the new state high school math pathway (the "2+1" model) would affect course selection; staff described how they will pare high-school geometry to fit new semesterized requirements and said they will emphasize right-triangle topics and more tangible geometry activities rather than extensive formal proofs.
On costs and rollout: staff reminded the board that the district budgeted for instructional materials in the general adoption cycle and said vendor-led training and local implementation supports are part of the planned rollout. Presenters told the board a budget line had been set aside for materials, that they were negotiating a lower final price with the vendor and that additional details would be returned to the board when finalized.
Implementation supports include vendor training on-site, follow-up coaching (Shannon McCall Consulting was cited as an existing partner), and building-level teacher specialists to help the transition into Google Classroom and district systems. The board approved the adoption after the presenters and committee answered questions on implementation, Spanish accessibility, and alignment.
The board recorded the motion and a voice vote; the clerk declared the motion carried.
