Facilities director reports summer projects, LED conversions ahead of state ban

Facilities staff said LED lighting conversions and other summer projects came in under budget; the work responds to a state ban on fluorescent lighting (House Bill 2037) and will leave only the district office and facility shop to convert.
Facilities presenter Mr. Parsons gave a photo-rich overview of summer projects, including LED fixture conversions in gyms and halls, carpet replacements, a ramp replacement at the Sublimity modular, a temporary rubber roof patch and warranty work at Mary Lynn gym, gym floor refinishing, parking lot striping (about $10,000), and a small $206 pass-through requested by SPED.
Parsons told the board the electrical contractor work came in far under the district’s initial estimate: "We, figured a 120,000 on that. It came in at 50," he said, crediting district labor and volunteers for savings. He noted the work is in part to comply with a state law phasing out fluorescent lighting (referred to in the meeting as House Bill 2037) and said only the district office and maintenance shop remain to convert.
Parsons also described insurance/warranty work on the Mary Lynn roof, sink and tile replacement in the high school home-ec space (including asbestos abatement costs), and ongoing projects such as a concession stand pending a permit and evaluation of a security fence to prevent student egress to the street.
Directors asked about energy savings from efficiency work; Parsons estimated roughly a 10% savings but said the district has not completed a formal energy study and noted energy prices and campus size vary the result. The board thanked facilities staff and a retired plumber volunteer who assisted on multiple projects.
