District outlines summer facilities work: safety upgrades, roof repairs and technology refresh

District operations staff presented an overview of planned summer facilities and safety projects intended to improve campus safety, accessibility and learning environments.

Will (operations staff) described projects that include bus-lift work at the 7 Oak mechanic shop, access-control and paging-system upgrades at all schools, construction of a paved bus slip at 7 Oak, Lebanon High School bleacher replacement, classroom remodels at Cascade EGC (door and cabinet removals), a major roof repair at Hamilton Creek and water-tank maintenance, interior painting and replacement of roughly 70 classroom ceilings, and technology-server infrastructure replacement. He also noted playground and pre-K covered play-area installations. Several larger projects are funded by grants (including a COPS grant) while others are managed within the district general fund with school-level input on priorities.

Chairman Oliver asked about the funding mix; staff said it was a combination of grant funds and general-fund allocations and credited staff work in maximizing existing budgets. Will said the facility advisory committee renewal will help the board prioritize deferred-maintenance decisions that are among the largest upcoming choices for the district.

What this means: The district is investing in a broad set of safety and facility improvements over the summer; coordination with state grant work and the renewed advisory committee is intended to guide long-term prioritization of deferred maintenance and capital improvements.
