Student urges board to let failing students continue extracurricular activities

"It sounds unjust to me that a student should be banned from participating in those things just for struggling in class," Mark said, describing his own involvement in track and theater and urging the board to respect a local Bill of Rights for children and youth that he said calls for equitable access to extracurriculars. He acknowledged some authority lies with the Oregon School Activities Association but asked the board to take any actions it can to help students retain access.
Chair Peterson thanked Mark and asked the superintendent to follow up through the superintendent's office to explore options and next steps.
