Board approves LiveWell health curricula for middle and high school

The Brookings‑Harbor School District board approved adoption of the LiveWell Comprehensive High School Health and Studies curriculum (grades 9–12) and the LiveWell middle‑school health curriculum (grades 6–8) during the June 18 meeting.
Chair introduced the high‑school curriculum adoption and asked Jean and staff to review both curricula to remove material “that we feel aren't adding value to our curriculum” or that residents find inconsistent with community values. A board member who had previously discussed the materials when Jean presented said there are lessons or pieces she will not use in her classroom; the board indicated trust in staff judgment to adapt materials as needed.
Motions to approve the high‑school and middle‑school curriculum adoptions were moved and seconded and passed on roll calls; the board recorded unanimous aye votes for both items.
The superintendent noted there were no public comments during the 30‑day review period and reiterated that teachers will tailor instruction and exclude lessons not used in the local classrooms. The district also discussed using outside online providers selectively (noted elsewhere in the workshop) to expand course options if staffing or course availability limits in‑person offerings.
