Superintendent Darren Drill told the Cascade School District 5 board that the district ended the fiscal year with a flat student count and constrained revenue, prompting a careful review of spending across departments.
Drill said staff evaluated needs during the final 60 days of the year, identifying areas where purchases could be deferred or reduced. He reported tentative settlement terms with teaching staff that would provide 2.5% increases in each of two years and a 2.5% increase in insurance contributions for those years; he said the administrative group indicated agreement to the same terms. Drill said classified-staff negotiations are still in progress and that district leaders expect more bargaining sessions before school starts in August.
Drill told the board the tentative agreements help clarify remaining budget capacity for classified negotiations but warned there are limits on what the district can afford. He said staff hope the classified association will vote on any tentative agreement prior to the start of the school year; if not, negotiations will continue.
The superintendent also noted routine summer work—facility maintenance, HR reviews and evaluating staffing needs—and introduced two new administrators later in the meeting.
