District staff outline $5.3M estimate for auxiliary gym and $37.5M for high-school modernization

The district’s presenter (Speaker 8) said the auxiliary gym base construction estimate is approximately $5.2–5.3 million and identified bid alternates that could be added if funding allows: a team-room addition (about $500,000) and a maintenance-storage addition (about $350,000). The presenter said the team will review value-engineering options with the steering committee to balance scope and budget.
On the larger high-school modernization, project staff reported an early construction estimate of about $37.5 million submitted by PNC, which they characterized as roughly 10% over the current budget. Staff described a building/site breakdown (building vs. site work) and said design development will provide a more reconciled estimate. They noted some components (e.g., HVAC system selection, building area and finishes) are primary targets for potential savings.
Staff discussed planning steps and land-use requirements for a possible new site exit and noted the project will include staged check-ins (schematic design, design development) with updated estimates at each milestone. The board and project team also discussed ongoing considerations such as possible solar installations, operating-cost implications of HVAC choices, and the need to track escalation in costs during development.
No formal contract awards or final approvals for the high-school construction were recorded in the work session; staff said low bids for initial security work and other summer projects will be put on an upcoming board agenda for authorization. The next technical milestone is design-development deliverables and an updated cost estimate.
