Board approves team travel, accepts donations and disposes of two old vehicles

The Springfield Local School District board on Oct. 22 approved extended travel for two student groups and accepted community donations.
The board approved an overnight trip for the Springfield High School softball team to Myrtle Beach, S.C., from March 22–29, 2025; the agenda noted no school days will be missed and all expenses will be paid through fundraising and participants. The board also approved an overnight trip for the high school marching band to New York City to perform at the Statue of Liberty from April 10–12, 2025; the band will miss two school days and fundraising will cover costs.
The board accepted donations listed on the agenda: Walmart on Arlington Road donated school supplies valued at $2,000 to the district, and Pence Brothers Incorporated donated $5,500 to Spring Hill Elementary to support student experiences and opportunities. Board members praised community support and described routine processes for receiving and distributing donated supplies.
Separately, the board approved disposal of two district vehicles — a 1990 Bluebird bus and a 1990 Chevy box van — which were determined to be unsafe for continued use.
All items were moved, seconded and approved by roll call during the meeting.
