Board accepts retirements and personnel appointments, remembers long-serving teacher

The Springfield Local School District board approved multiple personnel actions on Oct. 22, accepting retirement and resignations and authorizing hires pending proper licensure and pre-employment screening.
Among personnel items the board accepted was the retirement resignation of teacher Tom Anderson, effective Nov. 1, 2024. A board member recalled Anderson’s long tenure in Springfield classrooms, noting he began in 1995 and served at several elementary schools before retiring. "Tom touched a lot of kids, and he will be missed," the board member said.
The board also accepted the resignation of classified employee Katie Gantz (effective Sept. 13, 2024) and the resignation of Phyllis Miller (effective end of day Oct. 4, 2024). The district listed a set of classified substitutes and employees to be employed or reassigned pending licensure and screening, and approved non-sport supplemental contracts funded by band boosters (including a summer percussion instructor, Joey Morrison).
In employment announcements, the board noted Rebecca Tappas will serve as the new Shropp cafeteria manager. The motion to approve the personnel slate was moved and seconded and passed by roll call.
The board also approved volunteer coaches for the 2024–25 school year, pending required clearances and licensure.
