At the start of Monday's meeting, parent Sandra Cavan urged the Pickerington Local School District to clarify its dress code and consider uniforms.
"I'm a big fan personally of uniform," Cavan said, describing the current policy language as vague and leaving enforcement to administrators' discretion. She listed examples she finds concerning for middle- and high-school students, including crop tops that expose navels, yoga pants and bedroom attire such as silk bonnets: "If we're gonna be dressed for bed, we should be in bed," she said.
Cavan described herself as a volunteer at her children's schools and said her remarks come from ongoing observation: "It's a huge distraction, and very, very, very concerning." She asked the board to consider a districtwide approach so enforcement would be consistent across schools.
Board members acknowledged the comment during the public-participation period but did not take action at the meeting; the comment was recorded for consideration as staff and the board review policy and enforcement practices.
