Perry Local superintendent reports $5,000 Serve Ohio award, student trips and volunteer approvals

Superintendent Mr. Purcello provided the board with routine administrative updates and several items of local interest. "A couple weeks ago, we learned that Fisher has dropped their challenge of their property value, which helps us," he said, noting the district's fiscal position improved now that the challenge has been withdrawn.

Purcello highlighted student opportunities and community events: a second annual welding open house showcasing student work, a Share Your Genius Day linking high-school students and sixth graders, and an eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C., which included visits to the White House, Ford's Theatre and the Arlington Cemetery wreath-laying. He thanked staff and community partners, naming doctor Basich and Kara Plevis among those who supported the trip.

He announced that Perry Local Schools "was selected as 1 of 20 organizations in Ohio to take part in the Serve Ohio service learning institute and was awarded $5,000 to expand opportunities for our students," and said the funds will support service-learning projects.

Purcello also reviewed personnel and policy items on the agenda (first and second readings of board policies, retirements, supplemental appointments, substitute approvals and out-of-state travel for sixth-grade camp at Camp Fitch). He said the board would remove one volunteer recommendation (Nicholas Mann) from the agenda because the required people-activity permit had not been received; that item will be returned once documentation is complete.

The board accepted the superintendent's report and moved the consent items forward as part of the consent agenda.
