Sidney City students honored in Jacket Spotlight; Builders Club outlines community projects

District staff (speaker 4) read nominations and parents’ names for honorees including Aubrey Chambers (Whittier Early Childhood Center), Brian Taborn (Longfellow Primary), Mohammed Watt (Emerson Primary), Eli Frank (Northwood Intermediate), Parker Eisenhardt (Sidney Middle School) and Kevin Matias (Sidney High School). Staff praised the students' attendance, classroom contributions and extracurricular accomplishments.
Advisers Laurie Humphrey and Donna Chizari (speaker 5) then presented the Sidney City Middle School Builders Club. Humphrey said the club is in its third year, has 30 members with 11 present at the meeting, and is student-led; the club partners with Kiwanis and assists local agencies. Vaughn, Builders Club president (speaker 7), described the group’s past year: “We are part of the international Kiwanis family... Over the course of the previous year, we have had a total of 28 members. We volunteered at 24 different events and assisted 13 different agencies.” Vice president Evelyn Brandyberry (speaker 6) described current projects including a candy-bar fundraiser to support a living shelter for abused women and children and the club’s adopted Sherman Park cleanups.
Chair thanked the students and advisers and invited the student guests to stay or quietly leave before the board conducted business.
What happens next: The Builders Club will continue fundraising and complete the planned service projects; the club indicated it will bring a program report and a presentation from a shelter representative once fundraising is complete.
