Board approves hires, resignations and routine contracts; tables EdChoice action
Summary

The Northwest Local School District board approved a slate of personnel and routine district business items, including summer tutors and multiple certified and classified hires, supplemental coaching and extracurricular contracts, and extended-school-year transportation staff.
Chair (speaker 1) read recommendations to hire summer tutors (Robert Householder, Krista Keefer, Jennifer Turcovich) and certified hires such as Leo Seifman (music teacher at Northwest Middle School), Nicole Fudaldi (fourth-grade teacher at Stinson Elementary) and Megan Braylee (kindergarten teacher at Northwest Primary). The board moved and approved items 2–5 by roll call. Subsequent motions approved additional personnel actions (items 6–9), including summer bus maintenance hours and one-year limited contracts for several staff.
The board accepted resignations (Rhonda Hoser and Cheyenne Mackey) and approved an internal position change recommendation to move Rhonda Hoser from kindergarten teacher to art teacher at Northwest Primary, effective Aug. 16, 2024. The board also approved supplemental contracts for the 24–25 school year (coaching and related positions, contingent on background checks) and approved staffing for extended-school-year transportation for July 22–Aug. 9 for special-education routes, listing named drivers.
Chair recommended renewing a district procurement membership that staff said can produce cost savings. The board then discussed a proposed district-level endorsement to join Stark County and other districts in opposing the expansion of the EdChoice voucher program; speakers debated whether joining would be financial support or a symbolic/administrative action and several members suggested tabling the item until August so all board members could be present. No motion to join the county action passed at the meeting.
The board also adopted the food- and beverage-standards annual compliance report for K–12 as presented.
What happens next: Personnel hires and contracts proceed as approved (contingent where noted on background checks), staff will post membership renewals as appropriate, and the EdChoice/opt-out recommendation will be revisited at a future meeting when all members are present.
