The Northwest Local Board of Education on Sept. 23 approved a series of routine consent items: personnel appointments and hour increases, resignations, substitute hires, donations to schools and the Canal Vault Public Library budget and a library board reappointment.
On personnel matters the board approved multiple hires and appointments for the 2024–25 school year, including a third-shift custodian for Northwest High School pending background checks, hourly bus and educational aide assignments, and clerical reassignments. The board also approved modest hour increases for several educational aides at Northwest Primary and a shift for a budgetary clerk to a special-education administrative assistant effective Oct. 7, 2024.
The board accepted resignations from staff members including Megan Moore (administrative assistant to special education services), Robin Householder (type 1 tutor), and Barb Newton (mentor). The board also noted a correction that Madison Ross will remain student-council adviser despite an earlier typographical error.
Trustees approved donations presented at the meeting: $200 from the Speakeasy to the special-education department, $700 from a local Lutheran church to the first-grade team at Northwest Primary, and $500 from Amy Nichols for classroom supplies for an intervention specialist. Board members discussed possible personal or community connections between staff and donors where raised and thanked contributors.
In non-personnel business the board recommended approval of the Canal Vault Public Library proposed budget through 2025 and approved reappointment of a library board member with a long term set to expire in 2032, as presented.
All consent items were approved by roll call during the meeting. With no further business, the board adjourned and set its next meeting for Oct. 20.
