Northwest Local approves multiple hires, accepts resignations and promotes assistant principal to principal

At the June 23 meeting the superintendent presented a slate of personnel recommendations and the board acted on multiple items. The board considered hires including Maria Suave (Spanish teacher at Northwest High, effective 08/18/2025), John Larkins (intervention specialist at Northwest Primary, effective 08/18/2025) and Kelsey Sperande (guidance counselor, Northwest High, effective 08/13/2025). The superintendent also brought a proposed five-year contract for the treasurer, Steph Veil, and other administrative contracts for board approval.
The board accepted several resignations, including Angela Hill (bus aide) effective 05/29/2025 and Alicia Manning (sports medicine teacher) effective June 2025. The superintendent recommended acceptance of Larry Tosh’s resignation as Northwest High School principal effective June 27, 2025; the board acknowledged Tosh’s service and moved to accept the resignation.
In a separate motion the board approved the promotion of Andrew Kaufman from assistant principal to principal at Northwest High effective July 25, 2025; members and community commenters expressed support for the appointment. The board also approved numerous contract adjustments for staff advancing on the pay scale from bachelor’s to master’s levels and approved additional classified substitutes and bus-driver hires.
Board members thanked outgoing staff and welcomed new hires; recorded roll calls for many personnel motions show affirmative votes during the meeting.
