At its Oct. 27 meeting the Northwest Local Schools board approved a slate of personnel and program items and received a treasurer briefing about the state auditor's annual questionnaire.
The board approved personnel recommendations including appointments: Jackie Winkelman (primary teacher, effective 08/18/2025) and Mackenzie Farrell (high-school social studies, effective 08/18/2025). It also approved hiring Dale McLaughlin (third shift, high school) contingent upon background checks and certifications. The board accepted the resignation of Jacqueline Kresick (bus driver and cook) effective Sept. 22, 2025.
On supplemental contracts and extracurriculars the board approved recommended supplemental contracts for the 2025–26 school year (contingent on criminal-record checks and certifications) and approved a ski club for 2025–26 with named volunteers (Jody O'Shaughney, Patricia Veil and Liza Lauer) pending background checks. The board also accepted donations to the middle-school band and choir: $20 from Misty Smith; choir donations of $40 from Mann Enterprises, $100 from Alicia Eberly, $200 from Barb Roar and $200 from an anonymous donor.
Treasurer (speaker 6) briefed members about the annual state-auditor questionnaire and governance responsibilities, explaining the auditor's focus areas such as risk identification, fraud-prevention measures, whistleblower and theft policies, and asked board members to return their questionnaire responses within a few weeks to avoid additional auditor testing.
Votes on routine items were conducted by roll call and passed by the board. The chair and superintendent also discussed scheduling a Dec. 16 special meeting (7 p.m.) so the board can consider final construction contracts.
The meeting closed after noting upcoming continuing-education attendance (OSBA conference) and with a motion to adjourn that passed by voice vote.
