Student Services Director Bill Roth (S14) told the board the district has seen a marked increase in special education evaluation requests and outlined efforts to improve compliance and services.
"This year, the student services office has received 55 parent requests for evaluation along with 12 staff requests," Roth said, noting that last year the office had 75 requests for the entire year. He described increases in functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans and credited school psychologists and new staff for the workload.
Roth said the district received high marks on the Special Education Annual Rating for 2023-24, meeting all areas except for a "3" in valid and reliable data tied to a checkbox error; corrective actions initiated by a predecessor were completed and the office now reports improved compliance. To improve efficiency and compliance Roth said the district implemented SameGoal IEP software, which enforces validation checks and enables remote parent viewing and signing.
Roth also introduced new staff: RBT Tricia Bell (S16) and classroom supports and highlighted a new job-training coordination program for 11th and 12th graders to teach workplace skills. He asked for continued support as caseloads and requests rise.
The board thanked Roth and invited him to continue reporting on implementation and trends in future sessions.
